Crunchpanorama has more than 10000 geolocalized companies

In January 2009, crunchpanorama has passed 7000 companies. I predicted, with a linear growth, that 10000 companies was reached in April. It’s has been reached today. Just 10 days after April. Not so bad prediction!

It proves crunchbase is growing pretty linearly.

Of course maptimize clustering engine is still working as fast as the first day with only 5000 companies!

Can’t wait to have twice or ten times geotagged companies on crunchpanorama.

retailmenot.com uses maptimize

A new brillant integration of maptimize has be done by retailmenot.com. RetailMeNot.com is the easy way to find online coupon codes. Nice concept and very nice design. The map will help users to find coupons in their area, a valuable information.

Guy King, Technical Director, said to us:

When RetailMeNot.com decided to display tens of thousands of local coupons on a map, Maptimize was a great development shortcut for us.
Fast to implement, robust, easy-to-use and with a flexible feature set, we’d highly recommend Maptimize to anyone looking to plot many points on a map

V1 release

First of all, thanks to all of early adopters of our technology. We’ve seen really beautiful integrations on various websites.

Today, we are proud to announce the V1 release of our service.

This is more than a stable release, we also added new features and made some big changes :

  • We changed service name from Mapeed to Maptimize. This new name (Maptimize = Map + Optimize) describes better what our service provides.
  • We added new features :
    • Labels: from now you can set labels for each point and filter markers with them. You can use up to 8 labels. To demonstrate this, we’ve updated our CrunchPanorama demo based on CrunchBase. There are two labels: companies and financial organizations.
    • HTML Content: you can also attach HTML to a point, which will by default be displayed in an info window by clicking on the corresponding marker. With this new feature, integration in real world applications can take only a few minutes.
  • We propose new plans: to better fit your needs, we’ve added more plans, from 19 € to 149 € per month. Of course, you can contact us if you have special needs.picture-5

Don’t panic ! Everything will still work as usual if you are using Mapeed Beta version, but we strongly encourage you to upgrade to this new release.

This is just a beginning for Maptimize : we are already working on our next generation engine. It will be faster, more powerful and with more features. We’re also planning to distribute it as a “classic” software for those who prefer to install it locally instead of using our online service.

Stay tuned !
You can follow us on twitter , subscribe to our RSS feed or to our newsletter to be the first to know about new features.

A successful integration: GPSAngel

GPS Angel was one of the first early adopter of Mapeed. Gary Pigott who did Mapeed integration, told us how Mapeed has added a great value to his website:

“GPS Angel are bringing a new in-car GPS based speed & red light camera warning device to the US market. As part of the process we wanted to give our website visitors the ability to see the cameras we track in their area and also add freshly installed cameras. Because our database is so large it was not possible to plot all the points nation wide on a conventional embedded Google Map with acceptable performance. The first version of the website had to prompt visitors to select a US state before plotting points in that state. Even still, with some states having over 1,000 cameras, performance was a problem.

Now with Mapeed we can display the entire database together, dramatically increasing the impact of the site. The visitor can click on a given cluster to zoom into his desired location, until discrete points can efficiently be displayed. The complete conversion was finished in under a day using the supplied code samples and documentation.”

We are proud to see Mapeed community growing and we will post more success stories soon.

Crunchvision/Crunchbase has passed 7000 geolocalized companies

Crunchbase directory is still growing fast. When we launched CrunchVision end of november 2008, there were less than 6000 companies displayed on CrunchVision. Today we have just passed over 7000 companies. More than 1000 new geolocalized companies in 6 weeks (included holidays), it’s very impressive.

Of course markers and clusters display is still fast and reliable on crunchvision.

I am pretty sure that 10000 thousands should be reached in April. We will see.

CrunchVision - we are on it !

Last week, we launched the website crunchvision.com as an example of the Mapeed plugin integration. This is the first mashup with Mapeed : CrunchVision = CrunchBase + Mapeed + GoogleMaps .

CrunchVision announced on TechCrunch

CrunchVision announced on TechCrunch

Ouriel Ohayon, from TechCrunch, wrote a great article on the famous website TechCrunch.com ! Wow ! Thank you Ouriel for the post and Michael Arrington for the “this is really cool” comment (and the IE bugs are fixed now).

Since last week, hundreds of companies have updated their profile on CrunchBase and they appear now on the world map of tech companies. The CrunchVision map is updated every day directly from the CrunchBase directory.

One cool thing is that you can get a direct link to your company, for example for Mapeed , the url is : http://www.crunchvision.com/company/mapeed .

Have fun with CrunchVision, locate the companies in your neighbourhood and develop your local network !
